"LISD Earns Superior Financial Rating"Leander ISD continued to shine for its financial management, earning another superior rating by the state of Texas.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced on August 7 its preliminary financial accountability results, including Leander ISD gaining a perfect 100 score.

“The focus of this Board and the leadership in Leander ISD has been on investing high-quality teaching and learning,” Troxell said. “Being good stewards of tax payer dollars includes investing in student success first, while being responsible and transparent with funding. We are thankful to our finance and business team for overseeing our budget and to our Trustees for their continued commitment to students.”

Created by the 77th Texas Legislature in 2001, the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) encourages public schools to manage their financial resources and to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes. LISD has always earned a superior scoring since TEA launched the FIRST system.

“The Board of Trustees considers the district’s financial health to be one of our top priorities,” LISD Board President Pamela Waggoner said. “Once again, we are pleased to have the assurance that our financial practices align with the highest standards set by the state.”

TEA determines ratings by annual financial reports from the 2016 fiscal year. The FIRST ratings include several indicators, such as administrative cost expenditures; the accuracy of a district or charter’s financial information submitted to TEA; and any financial vulnerabilities or material weaknesses in internal controls as determined by an external auditor.

LISD will hold a public discussion or hearing regarding its financial report after TEA releases the final ratings.
